Airstream Update

I accidentally signed up for a camping trip on the same weekend we were supposed to go to Canada and Tennessee. We decided to camping, which meant we had to get the Airstream roadworthy. I basically took the month of July off to make that happen.

We actually removed and replaced the belly pan in April to make sure there was a good foundation to build from. It turned out to be a giant waste of time and money because the frame was in really good shape. We ended up removing the insulation, painting the frame with Eastwood rust encapsulating paint, adding double-bubble wrap insulation, getting the banana wraps repaired, installing a new belly pan skin, and installing stabilizer jacks:

We started the work in July with the windows. I removed all the windows, cleaned up all the jambs, replaced all the seals, got the windows frames repaired, lightly polished the frames, got the windows replaced, and re-installed them:

While we were waiting for the windows to come back; I polished the screen metal, Lina got the screens replaced, Lina made some curtains, and we put up all the screens and curtains on on the inside:

Lina de-rusted the front frame years ago, but it turns out the paint needs to be protected from the sun, so she re-sprayed everything on the exposed frame.

We replaced the tires and rims:

We kept the large original vent afer replacing the screen and replaced the rear fan with a fancy Fantastic Vent fan that has a rain sensor to open and close automatically. We also had to remove and re-install the kitchen vent.

And I built a temporary power station and utility panel so we can connect to services when camping.

And I installed the toilet, plumbed in all the vents, and built a temporary kitchen sink:

After I installed some vent covers on the roof and Lina painted all of that, we were ready to go with a matress in the front that we’ll cut up later:
