Relay Shipping Crates

We have a bunch of relays for training classes that we have to ship from class to class. We tried a bunch of different shipping methods:

  1. Shipping in the original boxes.  We have 20 relays, so that was a pain.
  2. Shipping multiple relays in some good cardboard boxes with 2-6″ foam all the way around. Fedex destroyed half of the boxes in one direction and actually bent the aluminum supports of the relays.
  3. Shipping multiple relays (with supports removed) in some incredibly sturdy cardboard boxes with 2-6″ hard foam all the way around . Fedex destroyed half of the boxes in one direction and actually caved in a corner of one relay.
  4. Custom crates with wood frames around the relays. Over half the wood frames were damaged by Fedex and about a third were damaged beyond repair.
  5. Now we’re trying 1″ aluminum angle iron with replaceable parts.  The first shipment left this week.  Cross your fingers.
