Lina decided she wanted to go to New York for her birthday this year and we asked some friends where to go.
The most interesting suggestion was Double Chicken Please, which is a bar/restaurant where the drink menu reads like the food menu. The drinks were very good, but I’ve never seen a better organized bar service staff. It was like we were looking at a dance:
- What’s Up Doc was a carrot-based cocktail
- The non-alcohol The Pooh cocktail was tasty
- Lina had the Cold Pizza cocktail
- The Japanese Cold Noodle cocktail was very reminiscent of Japanese Cold Noodles and was very tasty
- The Key Lime Pie cocktail was amazing and one of the best cocktails I’ve ever tasted

Our friend recommended that we contact her friend who lives in a Chelsea-area, rent-controlled apartment she’s lived in since the late seventies. We made arrangements to stay in her spare bedroom and she was boarding some cats while we were there. You could see the Highline from her window!

Lina’s number 2 priority was going to the MET and to look at the Oceanic Arts exhibit. So we spent almost a full day there.

Some friends also recomended we go to the Museum of Natural History:

We loved the Tenement Museum during our last trip in 2012, so we decided to visit its opposite, the Merchant Museum. It wasn’t as good.

We really liked the buildings around the Highline:

And Lina LOVED the Seaglass Carousel. We thought it was old, but it opened in 2015. Why fishes? Why here? The carousel is an homage to the first location of the New York Aquarium that opened in this spot in the late 1800’s.

We also explored the city and our friends took us to many, many bars:
